Aaaaand it’s a WRAP! Baking Workshop’s debut at The Fitzroy Mills Market (TFMM).
I couldn’t be more thankful for the friends of Baking Workshop (BW) who came to our stall last weekend! It’s heartwarming to receive constant support when you’re running a start-up business, seemingly on your own most of the time. The effort we’ve put in the past 2 months has been paid off when we see you enjoying our cakes!
And look! We’ve made some new friends too!
The overall turnout of the market could be better but on the bright side, we’re delighted to receive positive feedback on our Flourless Almond Brownies and Vegan Passion Fruit Cupcakes!
The little ones literally can’t take their hands off our Buttercream Flowers Cupcakes!
These cute gingerbread cookies are very popular as well!
We did a quick tour around the market and it was packed full of beautiful aroma, colors and flavors. Next to our stall was Bruno Gelato Co. sells dairy-free gelato with a selection of flavors. We’ve tried black sesame gelato made with rice milk. It was silky smooth and all natural goodness. Other stalls at TFMM include The Old Farm Happy Valley, Lilac and The Cat, The Tea Caravan, Plant Pasta, Industry Beans, Cobb Lane, Canine Wellness Kitchen and many more.
TFMM is a very new market established in Fitzroy in late Nov 2017, aiming to bring local growers and makers to the community. People are becoming more aware of health and wellness, demanding to eat fresh and responsibly. TFMM targets organic food lovers including vegans. Besides food ingredients, TFMM is environmental friendly and supports sustainability. All TFMM stallholders are encouraged to use biodegradable containers or packaging. On the day of event, TFMM organizer distributes free tote bags as a reminder to BYOB and say no to plastic bags. Lovely!
Baking Workshop specializes in customized cake but why selling cakes at the market you might ask? BW wants to spread the love for desserts and we want you to taste the difference of cakes with unique designs made with fine ingredients, in an affordable price! We care about what you eat and how it’s made. That’s why all the products created by Baking Workshop are made at licensed food premises with certified food handles who strictly follow the Food Safety Program.
Baking Workshop doesn’t want to limit ourselves to a made-to-order online cake store. Our passion is to create unique cake design and edible gift that people enjoy. We share our cake designs, inspiration and baking tips on Facebook and Instagram, we write blog posts about our events and food related topics. Ironically, it’s WHAT YOU THINK that we’d like to find out! What is your favorite flavor? What elements would you like to see on our cake designs? We feel it’s time for us to jump offline, get up close with our fellow BW friends to meet them in person, talk to them about and know them.
However, it’s never easy. There were obstacles to overcome in order to be a stallholder at a market. Most market stalls are fully booked or already took in a stall selling cakes so to maintain the diversity of goods available at the market, we’re out. Others might require involve high costs we can’t afford. It was our first market experience, we wanted to minimize our risk as there were too many unpredictable factors to take into account. We soon learnt about The Fitzroy Mills Market (TFMM) last year and decided it was a good place to begin. We’re so happy to have done it. It was a pleasure meeting everyone at the TFMM and hear all about your say.
